Summary: |
Nordic Design deals with the reaction of the Nordic countries to the Bauhaus and German Modernism. At the end of the 1920s, a new design became successful in all Nordic countries. The singular Finnish living conditions influenced the new formal language, as did the postulate formulated in Sweden:Beauty for all or the Danish preference for craftsmanship. The respective characteristics of the Nordic countries give rise to a very independent interpretation of functionalism. The focus was not on the avant-garde design, as often occurs in Germany, but on the tailor-made solution for a particular task. In this way, Scandinavian functionalism succeeds in becoming the identity-giving constant of the Nordic nations. Exhibition: Bröhan-Museum, Berlin, Germany (24.10.201 - 01.03.2020) |
