摘要註: |
Turkey's path toward accession to the EU is complicated by the fact that stereotypes of Turks continue to provide an important "Other" against which a supposed European "Self" is contrasted. Unlike previous studies, this book carefully traces the source of contemporary stereotypes back to their medieval eastern and Latin Christian origins, showing the astonishing resilience of the religious imagery despite the advanced secularization of modern Europe. The analysis is informed by an original theory of collective identity as dramatic performance - which revolves around the concepts of roles, scripts, and narratives - and employs a form of historical critical discourse analysis. |
