[NT 51398] Summary:
The book is a life history following Amal el' Sana- Alh' jooj's burgeoning journey from a young female shepherd to a powerful mediator of political and social change amongst Arab women in the Israel /Palestine region. It tackles persistent suppositions about Palestinian women in Israel by investigating her agency strategies as a Bedouin woman leading resistance in the Negev community through ethnographic-political fieldwork conducted throughout 2007 to the present. We argue processes of homogenization have left Arab minorities such as the Negev Bedouin women and their ever-increasing socio-political presence invisible within the larger Palestinian nationalist struggle. This study extrapolates on Amal's strategic negotiation of selves and Bedouin culture in an effort to illuminate the diversity of identities and agencies amongst Palestinian women.
